Laser Teeth Whitening vs. Professional Teeth Whitening Trays: Which One Is Best for Your Teeth?
Over time, it’s common for teeth to get stained. But they don’t have to stay that way.
Dentists have two methods for professional teeth whitening: laser teeth whitening and Teeth whitening trays. To make an educated decision about which method is right for you, you need to know how each one works.
Laser Teeth Whitening
Laser teeth whitening is a new technology for making your teeth pearly white. Contrary to what many people think, it isn’t the laser itself that blasts stains away. Your dentist will apply a high concentration hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide paste to your teeth.
When the laser activates the paste, the oxygen molecules from the paste break down stains from your teeth. This method produces fast results and can make your teeth up to 10 shades whiter in two-to-four 30-minute sessions, one every ten days.
Professional Teeth Whitening Trays
Your dentist may put an anesthetic on your upper and lower teeth, and a protective resin on your gums. Then, they will apply the whitening gel, usually containing hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to the surface of your teeth. Your dentist may activate it with an LED light for 10-to-15 minutes, and repeat the process three to four times.
This method can make teeth three-to-eight shades whiter in several 30-60 in-office visits.
Laser teeth whitening and professional teeth whitening trays are both effective at giving you a brighter smile. Which one is best for you depends on how quickly you want your teeth whitened, your budget, and how many trips to the dentist you’re comfortable with.
